Johhny Cash is American Music in my opinion. And even that is putting a bad label on his work. I think he was a truly gifted musician, and anything you hear from him was deeply personal, cover song or not. Anyone recall hearing his cover song of Nine Inch Nails's 'Hurt'? That song is really hard to hear, and the video is worse, for me at least, when you take into account about his wife, and how sick he got after she died.

His music was a part of my country, and that has no label. Good man, good music.

Other than the classical fetish I mentioned before, I also listen to just about everything else, but classical (meaning stuff like gw music and wow soundtrack) keeps me in a good spirit. I collect music, so my collection ranges from ragtime to classic rock to the pogues. You name it, chances are I have it, have heard it, or my buddy at an Austin record shop can get it

Best music I have ever heard though, without fail, seems to come from unknowns in the world. Those people are the innovators of musical trends, and tomorrows big grammy winning tune may be inspired or outright swiped from some guy named Bob the Bandit, standing at a greyhound station someplace.

Music is timeless, so I guess I will close this post with, I have no actual favorite, just a big plate of choices

Pretty much all metal genres (except for 'nu-metal'), but I listen mostly to these:

Death, Black, Viking/Folk, Gothenburg, Doom, Power, Gothic, Trash.
